Discipline is it your Friend?

sunI have a confession to make – in my program ‘Freedom to BE’ which has about 200 Transformation Accelerators each time I pulled the one that said the issue was Discipline – I wanted to walk away and ignore it (well mostly I did).  You see it annoyed me to think  that my lack of marketing success was about discipline.  I really wanted it to be something different, because for me the word discipline had all the hallmarks of control.  Putting me into a box and I wanted to be free-flowing.  Most of all I wanted to be free to do what I wanted when I wanted.  Except my Higher Intelligence kept shoving this Transformation Accelerator in my face trying to get my attention, like some pesky annoying fly.

When I began this 30 day blogging challenge it forced me to have some level of discipline – it required me to think about what I was doing, not do everything on the fly … using I am the ‘Creative’ type as an excuse.  In order to meet the daily deadlines, I had to put things in boxes with a label on it.  I needed to set some type of schedule for my working day.  Normally I could set a goal and it would stay in my head (no need to write it down) and I would just keep working away till it was achieved and achieve I did.  I have written 8 books, created the ‘Freedom to BE’ program with Definitions on every emotion, CD’s etc., and written numerous courses … and edited, formatted and created book covers for clients, all without a written disciplined approach.  I simply put it my head and completed these projects.  So you can see Discipline was a bit of a dirty word for me because if felt restricted, confined, controlled.

Well was I in for a surprise.  During my blogging challenge it required me to post to FB as you know, and to some of my blogging-appropriate groups.  One in particular drove me nuts cause each day had a theme and that theme never corresponded with what I was blogging about – I was constantly out of sync with this group.

Then as my days got busier I came to see the merits of some level of discipline.  Even the merit of having theme days in a group.  It made it simple for me to moderate by posting the themed post for each day allowing me time to get onto other tasks.

Now with this blogging challenge I did not always follow what Sarah Arrow suggestion (even though she certainly is full of blogging wisdom) why – there was so much to take in.  It was enough to implement keywords, SEO and to actually complete each day’s blog.  There is so much more for me to learn about blogging with intent – I tend to blog what I want to blog about without any structure (another dirty word) when in fact we do need structure and discipline to create the lifestyle we desire.  Otherwise we are constantly ‘doing’ our business … and not BEing.

Thank your Sarah for this challenge.  I am formulating a more structured approach to my blogging and will re-read and re-do the challenge again to integrate more of your wisdom so my stats increase which is the main reason for blogging.  What was the most important learning for me was SEO – installing Yoast showed me how to make sure the blog post was set up with the right url down to headings and content keywords.  That one thing was worth doing the 30 day challenge.

If you would like to check out what I was also up to whilst doing the blogging challenge – check out my new look website www.livingbrilliantly.com.au.  You see during the blogging challenge I was also doing a list building challenge that prompted me to update my opt-in ensure it was always at the end of each blog.  Bring a more structured look to the website so people could see in an instant what was on offer.  One challenge + another bring change … in this case a structured disciplined approach to my creative side.
